Friends of Oakley Park was founded in September 1989, by local residents who were concerned about the condition of the park and the lack of investment from the council.
Today, we are a not-for-profit community group run by a Committee of volunteers who freely give their time and expertise. We are funded by members' contributions, donations and grants and are fully accountable to our membership.
The Committee, who jointly manage any fund raising or community projects, The Committee meets monthly to review the financial situation, agree the programme of events and decide who will undertake specific tasks. Meeting minutes are available to members upon request.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held in January. The chairman introduces the meeting, reports on the years outcomes and gives an outline of activities during the year ahead. This is followed by a financial review by our Treasurer who reports on the financial situation and acknowledges any grants or sponsorship received. The committee will then take questions. The AGM is followed by a social evening.
The objectives of the Organisation shall be:
1) To work towards maintaining and improving Oakley Park for the benefit of the local community in partnership with the local Council.
2) To promote the preservation and maintenance of Oakley Park woods and to promote their use as a public amenity and as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC)
